Biochar as a multifunctional agent for aqueous chromium removal: A critical review of governing mechanisms, targeted syntheses, influencing factors, and practical applications
وصف البحث
Biochar has caught much attention owing to its excellent characteristics and prominent performance in the treatment of various contaminants. Many studies have demonstrated that biochar displays brilliant capacity for Chromium (Cr) removal and holds great promise for practical applications. There is a critical need to summarize recent developments in the preparations and applications of biochars especially engineered ones in removing Cr from water. To satisfy this need, this critical review first digests the key processes and governing mechanisms that control the removal of Cr by biochars. It then summarizes various novel preparation and modification techniques designed based on the mechanisms for maximizing biochar performance. In addition, the review also evaluates the influencing factors with a focus on their corresponding effect on Cr removal by biochar, thereby providing insights into optimal operation conditions. Most importantly, it innovatively outlines several practical applications cases of biochars in treating Cr contaminated wastewater to demonstrate their robust performs even under harsh conditions. At the end, the review outlines final conclusions and future research directions to further promote the application of biochar in the remediation of Cr in water.
