Course Description
Stress, strain, Hook's law. Modulus of elasticity, modulus of rigidity and Poisson's ratio. Statical determination of axial force, shear force, bending moment and torque in bars, beams and circular shafts. Load-shear-moment relationship in beams. Section Kinematics; strain and stress distribution and their resultants. Normal and shear stress distributions in beams of different shapes. Transformation of stress and strain, Mohr’s circle. Spherical and cylindrical pressure vessels. Elastic buckling of columns. Prerequisite: ENG 199 & MTH 002
