Research Description
New cities in the northern Upper Egypt region suffer from weak urban development due to
many urban, environmental, social and economic problems. With the deterioration of the
conditions in the new cities in the region, it was necessary to study the causes of urban
problems in those cities in order to reach appropriate solutions to them. Therefore, the
research aims to identify the features of urban development in the new cities in North Upper
Egypt (New Minya, New Beni Suef), to reach the causes of weak urban development in the
new cities in the study area, to analyze the current situation and development problems in
them, and to develop proposals for a solution with the aim of pushing urban development
along its path the correct. To achieve the above, To achieve this, the research first: followed:
a theoretical study to review the indicators of urban development through previous theoretical
studies; Second: A comparative analytical study of three previous experiences (global,
regional, and local) by giving an overview of the city, the features of its urban policy, the
foundations of choosing the city’s location, and the features of the urban policy adopted. It
also deals with an analysis of experiences according to urban development indicators; Third:
A field study of the new cities in the northern Upper Egypt region, during which the new cities in the study area were identified in terms of the general location and its determinants,
the possibility of reaching the new city, and its function; Then conduct a field survey of a
sample of residents and specialists to find out their opinions about the reasons for the poor
development in those cities and their proposals to address them; Using the statistical program
Spss; Fourth: Presenting the results and general recommendations for the hoped-for
development of the new cities in general, and those in the northern Upper Egypt region in
particular.
